I got a nice surprise in the mail yesterday from Mark Harper! It's his new CD: "The Mark Harper Project," featuring some really nice jazz with songs written by Mark in collaboration with the late Wayman Tisdale (among other tracks). There is some true virtuoso guitar work on this CD, with a wide variety of styles that range from smooth jazz to Spanish flavors to upbeat jazz, etc. It really showcases Mark's talent as a guitarist! A real nice cover of the 5th Dimension's "One Less Bell," for example. I'm just listening for the first time as I type this post.

This is good stuff. It's eminently listenable! I think you would love it with a glass of wine and the lights turned down low on a Saturday evening, just relaxing and enjoying the music. Overall I would say it is very mellow and laid back. It went into my iTunes and onto my iPod immediately!

And I'm proud to say that Mark chose one of my photos of him for the back cover of the CD:

I took this photo at the Suncoast Casino in Las Vegas during the Tower of Power show in September 2008. Sometimes a photographer just gets lucky, and that was the case here. It's the same color photo that is on the home page of Mark's Web site: http://www.markharpermusic.com.

Check out this CD! It's worthy.
